Athletic Scholarship awards
Scholarship Nominations
The Jackson-Madison County Scholarship Foundation seeks to assist selected Madison County seniors with college expenses. The purpose of the scholarships is to recognize athletes for their academic achievements, community service, and leadership abilities. Special consideration is given to students not receiving other forms of financial aid. Since 2005, the foundation and its partners have awarded over $110,000 in scholarships. Eligible student athletes may apply for a scholarship by filling out the online form or downloading the student application.
The Jackson-Madison County Sports Hall of Fame criteria for the scholarship recipients:

Be graduating from a Jackson-Madison County public or private high school the year for which application is made
-
Be an incoming freshman enrolled as a full time student in an accredited and academic associate or baccalaureate degreed program at a college or university
-
Be a resident of Jackson-Madison County
-
Be a student athlete in a sanctioned TSSAA (or its successor) sport or participated in related athletic activity (such as but not limited to trainer, manager)
BILLY AND MARGIE SCHRIVNER
SCHOLARSHIP
Tretavious Marsh of Liberty
Tech Magnet High School is the recipient of the Billy and Margie Schrivner
Scholarship. He played golf for the Crusaders and excels as a student leader.
He is president of the Student Government Association, a Beta Club member,
sings in the choir and is a yearbook representative. He has served his
community and school through various service-learning opportunities and
acquired his industry certification at Liberty. He has a 3.15 GPA and plans to attend
Austin Peay State University to pursue a career in agriculture with a
concentration in Agri Science.
VAN AND LOUISE THOMPSON
SCHOLARSHIP
Cooper Moss of South Side
High School is the recipient of the Van and Louise Thompson Scholarship. He has
played baseball and golf four years for the Hawks. He pitches and plays
shortstop, and last season helped lead the baseball team with a 5-1 record,
2.97 ERA and 52 strikeouts. He ranks 11th out of 174 in his senior
class with a 3.89 GPA and won South Side’s Heisman Scholarship competition. A
member of Beta Club and FFA, he is a Junior Rotarian. As a sophomore, he
started a landscaping and lawn-care business that has blossomed. He plans to
attend UT Martin and major in golf course science/landscape architecture.
MORGAN LEAH MCCARTY MEMORIAL
SCHOLARSHIP
Megan Hicks of Madison
Academic Magnet High School is the recipient of the Morgan Leah McCarty
Memorial Scholarship. She plays tennis and golf for the Lady Mustangs. She has
played tennis four years at Madison, advanced to the state tournament as a
sophomore and earned all-district honors last season. “Megan’s genuine
dedication and love for her teammates has been amazing to watch,” writes
Adriane Baldwin, Madison’s assistant tennis coach. “… Megan continues to
improve her game, and she encourages those around her.” Hicks has a 3.14 GPA
and plans to attend Hampton University.
TERRY MOORE MEMORIAL
SCHOLARSHIP
Alaina Perry of Trinity
Christian Academy is the recipient of the Terry Moore Memorial Scholarship. She
ran cross country and plays softball for the Lady Lions. She earned
All-District 5 honors in softball last season in Division II-A and excels in
the classroom. She has a 4.58 weighted grade point average and ranks fifth in
her graduating class. “Alaina is a burst of energy,” writes Vicki DeBerry, TCA’s
director of guidance. “She works very hard to make sure she will achieve and
surpass her own personal goals.” Perry plans to attend Union University.
R. BRADLEY HANCOCK AWARD
Kyle Korth of Madison
Academic Magnet High School is the recipient of the R. Bradley Hancock Award.
He played soccer and basketball and ran cross country for the Mustangs. He was
a state qualifier four years in cross country and was region champion twice. He
was all-district in basketball the past two seasons and served as team captain
this season. He is a four-year starter on the soccer team, which was state
runner-up last season when he was co-captain, all-state, all-region and
all-district. He has a 4.0 GPA, a 32 ACT score and ranks eighth in his class of
95. He plans to attend the University of Tennessee Knoxville.
WILL PEVAHOUSE MEMORIAL
SCHOLARSHIP
Maddux Rabun of University
School of Jackson is the recipient of the Will Pevahouse Memorial Scholarship.
He played both baseball and football four years for the Bruins. He earned
honorable mention all-region honors as a defensive lineman on the football team
last season. And he was first-team all-district and USJ’s Most Improved Player on
the baseball team last spring. “Maddux was an outstanding player, but more
importantly, he was an even greater person and teammate,” writes former USJ
baseball coach Jack Peel. Rabun has a 3.65 GPA and plans to attend the
University of Arkansas.
RICHARD ROSS SCHOLARSHIP
Braden Nye of Madison
Academic Magnet High School is the recipient of the Richard Ross Scholarship. A
four-sport athlete for the Mustangs, he ran cross country four seasons, had a
personal best time of 18:34 and advanced to state each year. He also played
basketball and soccer and ran track. He was all-district, all-region MVP and
all-state in soccer as a sophomore, and all-district MVP, all-region and
all-state last season when he had 23 goals and 17 assists. He ran on the
state-qualifying 3,200-meter relay team last season. He has a 4.0 GPA, an ACT
score of 33 and ranks third in a class of 95. He plans to attend Auburn
University at Montgomery.
JIMMY CAREY MEMORIAL
SCHOLARSHIP
Stella Spencer of University
School of Jackson is the recipient of the Jimmy Carey Memorial Scholarship. She
played soccer, basketball and tennis for the Lady Bruins. She was all-district
in basketball, but she excelled in soccer four years and helped USJ win two
state championships. She was all-region, all-west state and all-state as a
senior. Her junior soccer season she was all-district MVP and sports writers
all-state. As a sophomore she was all-state, all-region, all-district and
all-west state. She has a 3.88 grade point average and plans to attend the University
of Tennessee Knoxville.

SPINE SCHOLAR ATHLETE AWARD
Amelia Goehring of Trinity
Christian Academy is the recipient of the Sports Orthopedics & Spine
Scholar Athlete Award. She played soccer and basketball and ran track all four
years at TCA and was captain of the soccer and basketball teams. The 5-foot-9
guard was an all-district and all-region tournament selection the last three
basketball seasons and placed at the state track meet on relay teams the past
two seasons. She played mid fielder for the soccer team. She has numerous
academic honors and ranks first in her class of 42 with a 4.76 GPA. She had
three offers to play college basketball but signed to play soccer at Union
University.

SPINE ATHLETE AWARD
Kierstyn Beard of North Side
High School is a recipient of a Sports Orthopedics & Spine Athlete Award.
She played basketball and volleyball. She led the Lady Indians’ basketball team
in five categories last year, averaging 9.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.1
blocks. She was the team’s defensive player of the year and also led in
field-goal and free-throw percentage. She is a three-time all-district
performer. She has a 3.63 grade point average, is ranked 12th in her
graduating class of 192, and is a member of North Side’s National Honor Society
and student council. She has not chosen the college she will attend.

SPINE ATHLETE AWARD
Ava Cox of Sacred Heart of
Jesus High School is a recipient of a Sports Orthopedics & Spine Athlete
Award. She was a four-year starter on the soccer team and was captain the last
two seasons. She was selected most improved player on the team last season. She
is involved in numerous school activities and enjoys participating in chorus
and theater productions. She is student-body president this school year and
served as class president her freshman and junior years. A member of numerous
school clubs, she ranks first in her class with a 4.68 grade point average. She
plans to attend Wofford College on a music scholarship.
